Sneak Peek at Mom's Weight Loss Journey

As a personal trainer, my duties are to motivate and encourage each client towards reaching health and fitness goals. First and formost I would like to applaud my mother for her determination!
Many of my friends and family members are aware of her lifestyle transformation so far. Not only did we set goals for my mother, but I also made a very specific goal for myself. My goal upon becoming a certified personal trainer was to dedicate as much time as I could to help my mom with her struggles with obesity. In a mere 6 months we have worked through sweat and tears to reach this huge milestone of a decrease in body weight of 100 pounds. A couple of months prior to her initial fitness routine, she decided to alter her eating habits and right off the bat began to see a significant weight loss of nearly 20 pounds. We began training January 10, 2012 in my home gym. Week after week, month after month I began to see improvments not only in weight reduction but in her overall activities of daily living. Range of motion became easier, clothes were fitting looser, and she is able to do things she hasn't done in 20 years. Although she lives with progressive arthritis in her knees she was thrilled to be able to jog which and I quote " I haven't jogged in 20 years" and by mid April she noticed she was able to get to her feet from the floor without assistance. Her initial BMI result fell in the morbidly obese category at 53.8. She has now fallen below this category with a BMI of 38.1.
We began her fitness sessions with cardio on her "bff"  stationary bike. After a few months of cycling and basic arm movments, her fitness level increased and I was able to introduce a more intense fitness routine including aerobics, resisitance training, and a little thing I like to call "MINUTE MADNESS!"  It is a series of 10-15 various circuits which are completed in 60 second intervals follwed by  30 seconds of active rest. hmmmmmm I don't know why most of my clients hate this so much???  muahahahaha

This is merely a sneak peek of her transformation so far.... I will be blogging with more detail in the future once she hits her goal weight. Thank you for all of the kind words and continued support from friends and family. I will never let her give up, I am very proud of my mom for working so hard. At 243 pounds she is determined to lose another 75-80 pounds to rech her goal weight. This has been a complete lifestyle change and we will continue to work hard and see results.
